We are well into Makuru/Winter now – currently I’m listening to the sound of rain falling on my roof. There’s a comforting, soothing calmness to the soft wash of frequencies overhead.
It is a time of rest – but also a time of renewal and growth. My garden – or, more better described as a large collection of pots filled mostly with donated plants from family, friends and neighbours – is loving the rain. I see new green shoots reaching upwards, diagonally and across.
As for us – our PICA residency was also a great time for resting and thinking about our work. One of the luxuries of a residency – particularly ones like PICA – is that there wasn’t an expectation of an outcome. We could just be in the space, converse with like-minded folk and experiment with different approaches.
It also emphasised the importance of rest in creativity – and in life, generally. Like my garden, with my plants growing in all different directions. It’s a time to gather my thoughts and contemplate how best to move forward.
